We are Dale & Pen Goodwin, with help from our children, Dexter, Louie & Grace, make up Goodies Farm. We are a local family farm business, covering 800 hectares of land based in Kendenup, Great Southern, WA
Dale is originally from Dalwallinu in the Northeastern Wheatbelt of West Australia & has been a broadacre farmer since he was 19. Pen was born in Birmingham, UK and travelled extensively before her travels took her to Dalwallinu and we met in 2009. In 2014 we decided to move the farm business to a higher rainfall area and have found a home in Kendenup. Originally buying 35 acres, we have managed to secure five separate connecting blocks to create the farmland that is managed today.
Since 2019 we have been transitioning to biological farming methods to grow our grains, legumes, multispecies crops & cattle with an emphasis on soil health. We now use organic fertilisers, farm-created compost & vermicast with added trace minerals to create nutrient-dense food & high-quality farm products.
We previously ran Merino Sheep but found the wetter climate and organic farming methods stressful. We have since introduced Murray Gray Cattle in 2023 and are rotationally grazing them throughout our paddocks. Our Goodies Chook Grain & Hay are grown without any chemical intervention with only a light raking with a Kelly Chain to prepare new paddocks for planting.
We still use a minimal amount of herbicides (a third of the rate we previously used & buffered with Citric & Humic Acid) to grow our monoculture crops but there is no fungicide, no insecticide & no spray in crop. We are actively working towards being chemical free and we have previously had our grains tested to make sure no chemicals are present in the end product.
We are passionate about creating biodiversity & rehabilitating land. You can read more about our regeneration projects here.
