Regeneration Projects

Carbon Projects - Goodies Farm

Our vision for the land here is to revitalise our soils and create as much biodiversity as we can. We initially looked to partner with a larger carbon project to create multispecies nature corridors that would connect existing bush areas and to rehabilitate the salt prone areas with salt tolerant plants.

We teamed up with Dirty Clean Food and other regen ag farmers to create a 25 year carbon project that would allow us to accrue ACCUS (Australian Carbon Credit Units). We have committed 54 hectares of land to tree & bush planting. Most of the tree planting was carried out by Christie, Ros & Dale. We also had a wonderful Great Southern Activate Tree Planting weekend with 50 people joining us on the farm in July 2023. 10,000 trees were planted and we were so grateful for the connections, enthusiasm and energy that lingered long after the revelers had departed. 64,000 trees have been planted all up and we will continue to infill the trees that didn’t make it over the next year or so.

We also partnered with Greening Australia and Glenn carried out an infill planting project to restore some of the existing bush that has been overgrazed over time.

Finally, we have connected with Carbon Sync, to create a pasture carbon project. Basically, we accrue ACCUS with measurements as to how our farming practices are drawing down carbon into the soil. As the farming methods encouraged by Carbon Sync are in line with what we are already doing it has been an easy project to sign up to. We have been given opportunities to upskill our farm and business knowledge, funded by Carbon Sync, and will be using an ag data package to collate data needed for the project. We love the idea of being part of solid evidence rather than just anecdotal references and visual descriptions of what changes we are seeing out in the paddock.
