Resources

We have been researching alternative farming methods for many years and are very much informed by a huge variety of farmers, soil scientists and people who have been at all this way longer than us. We initially found it hard to find resources that applied to our situation but it is great to see how more readily available information is now.

Below we have included links to people, books, websites, YouTube videos and podcasts that have helped us along the way. We hope you find them useful too.

Gabe Brown - http://brownsranch.us/ - Brown’s Ranch is based in North Dakota, USA with extreme weather and it is amazing how many good ideas and information we have got from Gabe Brown’s book “From Dirt to Soil”

Jono Frew - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej9oUCvNQ2s - We first saw Jono on this Happen Films podcast. We got in contact and did some online sessions to give us some advice when we were starting out. Jono is a lot of fun to hang out with and was so great to talk to when we were trying to bring lots of new information together. Jono also comes from a conventional farming background before he went and worked on an organic farm.

Nicole Masters - https://www.integritysoils.co.nz/ - We have listened to '“For the love of Soil" on Audible so many times. A very easy listen, with great stories and accessible information & data. Pen has also been involved with the Rural Woman Regen Ag group led by Kim Deans. Kim has worked with Nicole and has now started her own business with her hubby. Angus called Reinventing Agriculture - https://www.reinventingagriculture.com.au/.

Graeme Sait - https://www.nutri-tech.com.au/ - The Nutri Tech Blog is well worth a read through and we are avid listeners to Graeme’s monthly Nutrition Farming podcasts. Dale did Graeme’s 4 day farming course in 2018 and it really did change the direction of our farming.

Joel Salatin - https://www.polyfacefarms.com/ - We listened to Joel Salatin’s book “Folks this ain’t normal” way back in 2011 and it felt like it wasn’t possible for us to change what we were doing. We have gone on to read many more of his book and just love the different approaches used at Polyface Farm. We definitely look at how we can diversify our income streams influenced greatly by Salatin’s ideas.
