Kinjarling Tedx Talk

Back in September the Tedx Kinjarling team advertised for presenters at their January 2022 event.

A few friends had sent me the link suggesting I could talk about our farming practices but I really didn’t think it was for me or Goodies Farm. We are only three years in to changing our farming methods and I always lack confidence in how much farming I actually know. “Am I qualified to get up and give a Ted Talk??” not really and I am no Nicole Masters, but the “Go on, give it a go” voice in my head got me filling in the application form on the last day you could apply.

It was 4 months of developing the speech and Albany rehearsals. It felt a bit much during harvest but it was brilliant. I had a fantastic time on the day, got a great reaction to the speech and just enjoyed being in a room with a welcoming & receptive audience. Presenter Tim, had said to me just before I went on “Just enjoy it Pen, everyone wants you to do well and it really doesn’t matter if you make a mistake.” Great advice that just put my nerves at rest before I walked on stage.

The Talk is now available to watch on the TED website here.

Ted Talks are all about ideas worth spreading and it is not necessarily about being the expert. It is someone’s story tied up in inspiration of what can be done and make people feel like that can also follow their passions. I loved it!

Tedx Kinjarling will be back in 2023 and I would encourage anyone in the Great Southern to apply. Look out for the posters later on in 2022.
